Avignon France Tourist Information and Vacation Guide
The medieval city of Avignon is encircled by a wall that is referred to
as the Ramparts (remparts). The original ramparts were built by the pope
when the Vatican was moved to Avignon France from Rome in the 1360s. They
have since been rebuilt.
Although most of Avignon’s principal
attractions and landmarks are located within the walled city, a few
notable exceptions are the Avignon Bridge and the two main Avignon train
stations.
